Tuina (twe-naa) is the name given to the Chinese style of rehabilitation and bodywork therapy. It can be considered a cross between massage and physical rehabilitation. It focuses on the reallignment of tissue through various finger, hand, elbow, and knee techniques of the therapist. The techniques used are determined by the state of injury of the tissue due to either the lack of circulation, or the obstruction to circulation, or the level of damage. The compromised circulation due to injury, and the freeing of the obstruction will be the objective in getting the tissue back to normal. Herbal liniments are often applied and worked into the tissues to accelerate the process of circulation.
